Second Saturday Clinic

Folkcraft Instruments, 22133 Main Street, Woodburn, Indiana

Join in the fun with Larry Conger on this special Second Saturday Clinic hosted by Folkcraft Instruments. We'll have a jam at 10:00, followed by a clinic starting at noon. We'll take a lunch break around 1:00, and resume the clinic after eating. The clinic is "hands-on" - bring your mountain dulcimer!

After we wrap up the class at about 4:00, you'll be serenaded with a 30-minute performance by Larry

The class size for this clinic is limited, so we do require pre-registration. Registration will open online (at Folkcraft.com) in early 2023.

The Virtual Duet Dulcimer Retreat 2023

Online again in 2023, this two day event features duets for two standard dulcimers. The classes are suitable for the intermediate level player. Tab books are included in the price for the workshops provided you register before July 15. After that date, you can still register but will only receive the tabs as a digital download. All participants will receive audio practice tracks.

There will be four 45 minute workshops each day. Our schedule typically begins at 10:00 EDT and concludes at 5:00 PM with breaks between each workshop. Times are subject to change. 8-10 songs will be presented over the course of both days.

The cost of the workshop is priced per person, not per household.

Creating Tab From Standard Notation (a follow up)

This class is being offered as a follow up to my QuaranTUNE workshop on Creating Tab From Standard Musical Notation. We will review the concepts we learned in the initial workshop and expand on those ideas, including more advanced melodies, applying chords to the melodies, and adding "filler notes" between the melody notes.

Mountain Dulcimer Hymnposium 2023

This will be the 4th annual Hymnposium - a two day online event hosted by Larry & Elaine, featuring arrangements of gospel and hymn tunes. Perfect for the intermediate level player.

Multiple workshops will take place throughout the day on Friday and Saturday with breaks in between. A typical schedule begins at 10:00 AM EDT and concludes around 4:30 PM EDT. As an optional bonus, the final session each day will be dedicated to learning duet and bass dulcimer parts for the tunes presented during the day.

As time for the event approaches, registered participants will receive detailed information regarding the schedule, downloadable copies of the arrangements, and downloadable audio practice tracks.

A special hybrid dulcimer event. You can register one of two ways.

  1. Participate in person on the campus of Western Carolina University
  2. Attend online via Zoom from the comfort of your own home

This will be a full day of workshops featuring multiple part arrangements for standard, baritone and bass dulcimers. Each workshop will be geared toward the intermediate level player who has a working knowledge of the chord-melody style of playing. DAD tuning will be used and all materials will be new for 2022.

Registered participants will be permitted to make one additional copy of each part for use with their ensemble. Multiple copies beyond the allocation can be purchased separately after the workshop has concluded.

All registered participants will receive the tabs and audio practice tracks to use for rehearsal. Whether you prefer the virtual or in-person option, we hope that you will join us for a fun day of making dulcimer music together!

All times Eastern Standard Time: 9:00-10:15 - Session 1 10:45-12:00 - Session 2 12:00-1:30 – Lunch 1:30-2:45 - Session 3 3:15 -until - play-through of all arrangements learned during the day!

Gatlinburg Dulcimer Hymnposium

Online again in 2022. The third annual hymn weekend with Elaine and Larry Conger will be dedicated to learning and playing some great old hymns and gospel tunes on the mountain dulcimer. Designed for the intermediate level mountain dulcimer player.

Our schedule typically begins with a workshop at 10:00 AM EDT on Friday and Saturday, followed by additional classes throughout the morning and afternoon with breaks in between. Workshops should conclude around 5:00 PM EDT both days.

April 1 will be the last day to register for this event and still receive the souvenir tab book as part of your registration. Participants who register after April will only receive class materials as a download.

St. Patrick's Day Music Celebration

Perfect for the intermediate level player, this workshop will feature three great old Irish tunes that are suitable for St. Patrick's Day. We will be learning "Raglan Road" "Star of the County Down" and "Red Is the Rose." The fun starts at 7:00 PM EDT. We should be finished learning the songs by 8:45 PM.
